SoftLab came back from ICSE (International Conferenceon Software Engineering) and Promise (International Conference on PredictorModels in Software Engineering) 2009 with two awards. This year, Ayşe Tosun,Ayşe Bener and Burak Turhan (SoftLab alumni, currently in NRC) from SoftLab got the best paper award in Promise 2009 conference, with their paper: “Practical Considerations of Deploying AI in Defect Prediction: A Case Study within the Turkish Telecommunication Industry”. This paper is a good example of how complex models can be deployed and used in practice. Furthermore, in SCORE project contest, which is a project competition held by ICSE for undergraduate and graduate students, a group of undergraduate students (Kaan Yücer, Reşid Çizmeci, Ozan Kaya, Elif Akan, Fatma Ekici, Ali Karasu) of Bogazici University Computer Engineering Department won “the best undergraduate team” award. They have completed this project as part of their Software Engineering course (CMPE 450). The award was given to them on the basis of their end product quality as well as their high level of process maturity and good demonstration of applying software engineering principles throughout the project. As SoftLab, we congratulate everyone who has contributed to this success.
Before this global recession that wasinitially caused by the subprime loans in the US, there were tell-tale signs ofimpending wave of havocs. However, whenthese signs were realized, it was too late.It took a long time to understand the real calamity of the problem. This delay was due to the lack of real ITgovernance, control and audit.Thisseminar will explore how to rethink the IT control and audit so that as weemerge from this recession, we can prevent such a meltdown.Should IT control and audit be a key part ofthe regulation hearings which will take place in Washington in coming months?
Softlab Seminar: Personal and Team Software Processes (PSP/ TSP) by Haluk Tekbulut
Friday, 21 November 2008
Personal and Team Software Processes (PSP/ TSP)” on 27 November 2008, 10:00 – 12:00 at Rectorate Conference Hall, Boğaziçi University. The seminar will be held by Haluk Tekbulut who is a consultant on software processes.
Burak Turhan defended his PhD thesis on 12.09.2008.
Thesis Title: Improving The Performance of Software Defect Predictors With Internal and External Information Sources
Burak was the first to receive a PhD degree among the students of SoftLab, the youngest research laboratory of Bogazici University. Therefore, we are highly proud and we congragulate him on his success once more.
