Software Engineering is an engineering discipline that is concerned with all aspects of software production from the early stages of system specification to maintaining the system after it has gone into use (Sommerville, 2004). Apart from computer science, which is concerned with the theories and methods that underlie computers and software systems, software engineering is concerned with the practical problems of producing software.
Established in 2003, SoftLab, the youngest research laboratory of computer engineering department, has successfully merged the experience and energy of faculty members at all levels to create the synergy required to enhance software engineering research in Turkey. SoftLab's purpose is conducting research on various aspects of computerengineering including cost and effort estimation, defect estimation/prevention, value based software engineering and softwareprocess improvement. Currently, 9 fulltime and affiliated facultymembers, 5 research assistants; 8 PhD, 3 MS and 2 undergraduate students are associated with the SoftLab.
